Former Tehran Mayor, Mossadegh’s Lawyer (1915-2009)

Nosratollah Amini, born in 1915, was a lawyer, judge, former Mayor of Tehran and Dr. Mossadegh’s personal attorney and friend. After the 1953 coup, Amini, a founding member of the Iranian National Front, was one of the few people allowed to visit with Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh during his house arrest in Ahmadabad.
After the revolution, he served briefly as the Governor of Fars (a position once held by Mossadegh), but soon resigned.
In 2004, Mr. Amini with the assistance of his daughter, journalist Fariba Amini, published Letters From Ahmadabad, a book compiling his ongoing correspondence with Dr. Mossadegh in the years after the coup.
Mr. Amini and his wife resided in Northern Virginia for many years. On June 29, 2008, he was honored at an event celebrating his life at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, VA. Akbar Ganji, among others, spoke in tribute at the gathering.
Nosratollah Amini passed away on the morning of April 20, 2009.
