Money For Iran
Observers of the Iranian crisis have noted that Premier Mohammed Mossadegh frequently adds tears to the eloquence of his oratory. In the case of the money, there might be no question about the genuineness of the tears. Mossadegh came to power in the midst of the confusion following the assassination of his predecessor, promising to seize the oil properties and make all Iranians rich. [Premier Ali Razmara, killed March 7, 1951] Instead Iran is broke. He may have been telling the truth when he said that unless there is some money in the treasury soon “no one can be sure of the outcome.” But he probably has a pretty good idea that one outcome will be the end of his rule.
