Blame for Iran
Editor:
I cannot believe how former Governor Reagan [Ronald Reagan] is trying to put all the blame on
President Carter for the
hostage situation. His memory must be going. It was the Republicans who put and kept the shah in power. [Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953, though Democrats, too, including Carter, supported the Shah]
Our former President Nixon came right out and said we didn’t help the shah enough. [Richard Nixon] He
went to the shah’s
funeral to show his loyalty and friendship to him. So if anyone is responsible for the present situation in Iran, it is the Republicans.
